What is the weight limit for using it as a backpack?
I think it depends on how much weight you can tolerate comfortably. I wear my 2 year old comfortably in it but she behaves well. Some other 2 year old may wiggle around and try to get off and it wouldn't be comfortable. As long as your child is used to being worn, he/she/ should be fine it in as long as you can carry them. Use common sense and safety precautions. It is your responsibility to look over your carrier and check for weakened seams.
Where can I learn how to use these carriers?
Please check out the page on this site of Distributors and Demos, there is a list of people all around the US and in some other countries that carry instock carriers for you to try out and learn from a pro!
I have never used an Asian style carrier, what style do you recommend?
I started with a mei tai. I feel that you can get the most diverse weight distribution, carries, and comfort in this style, it is easy to get on and off with no help and is a great start to your future addiction of asian carriers!
How long are the straps?
The straps are 75 inches long and 4 inches wide each on the shoulders, and the waist is one continuous piece that is about 78 inches long and 4 inches wide. These measurements work for most people.
I don't like to cross over my chest, can you wear the carriers other ways?
Yes, there are many different ways of tying the straps. Please check out the helpful links page and styles page for links to instruction pages and other babywearing sites for ideas.
How old does baby need to be to use it?
You can carry a newborn in the front position until he/she is strong enough to hold her head up on her own, then switching to back carry is safe. Some experienced babywearers can use the back carry for a newborn. Use your best judgment. Please do not use any FreeHand carriers in a front facing out position for their safety and well being. Please see the instruction pages on this site where you can find pictures and video on the proper way to use your Carrier.
My baby just doesn't seem to like the carrier, what am I doing wrong?
So #1, see if you can get a picture to send to me so I can make sure you are wearing the carrier correctly, I am also able to give you suggestions to make it more comfortable for both you and baby.
#2 Keep trying and try different situations, go outside, do it after baby wakes up and is well fed, or try nursing baby immediately in it. Always keep moving and be sure that baby is not overwhelmed.
#3 www.thebabywearer.com using your babycarrier forum is a great resources for support and suggestions from many different moms who may have been in your situation. Some people who have asked this same kind of question or expressed this concern were advised to wait a few more weeks and try again. For most people, that works.

Proper care of these carriers is essential for long term use. Please only wash in cold water, hang dry, Fanciful FreeHands must be hand washed and some of them, you may not wash the panels. When buying a used carrier from a FSOT or SWAP board, please be sure to check over all seams and weight bearing parts before trying it on. You should check over all seams regularly, after each washing, and in between uses to make sure your carrier is still functioning properly and safely. It is your responsibility to protect your family, please use common sense when wearing these carriers and the activities and situations you choose to participate in while wearing your children.
